Posted by: kennix  /  Category: featured

Remember this VW Golf Commercial? Bill Gates even did a Parody  it was so popular. Pretty sure this was a MkIII,

Ken Clean-Air System brought the band’s original video to our attention.Very Strange!

Re: Was this a MKIII?

Definitely a great commercial that re-popularized a very strange German song from the early ’80s.

This is the original, very strange video:

Hare No More, Golf’s Here to Stay=)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to chime in and share a few pix of my new 2010 Volkswagen Golf.

I picked it up on November 10th and have been enjoying it immensely ever since. It is a base model Golf with previous generation 17″ Vision V wheels and tinted glass.

I LOVE IT! The acceleration, handling, comfort, ride and interior materials are simply amazing!

Proud owner of a 2010 Volkswagen GOLFWORLD CAR of the YEAR!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I don’t even mind the Nissan Versa comparisons, as I like that car as well. Just not as much as my Golf! I think the Golf is a little sportier than the Versa. I think it may take a while for some to warm up to the revamped styling. Some may never come around. That’s fine. So long as they are happy with whatever they’re driving.

And all these pleas to lower it! Too funny, as I thought I had just got done scraping my car on driveways with my MINI! It does sit a little high, but lowering it is not on my to do list. I’m more concerned with getting satellite radio installed. Perhaps nav. I DO like the idea of lowering, and perhaps beefing up the suspension a little. I miss my MINI’s sport suspension a little. That car hugged the road and you could turn on a dime. This car tends to lean and push into the turn. It’s firm, but not nearly as well-planted as the MINI was. I have to remind myself that I’m no longer at the wheel of my MINI when cornering sometimes! I may opt to lower the car in the future, but it would be more for handling than appearance. I would probably combine lowering it with the addition of heavier duty suspension parts.

Love to hear your ideas, though.

PS – The keyhole is concealed underneath the end cap on the door handle. You must pry off the cap to be able to use the key to gain access. Simple enough operation…

Actually, I was planning on using Elk Grove (Lasher) VW, but they didn’t have any Golfs in stock, and I didn’t enjoy my recent visits to Niello, so I chose Roseville by default. I could have gone in towards the bay area, but decided to remain local and I was glad I did. The folks at Roseville were very cool and easy to work with. Great follow through and very appreciative of the business. My salesman was Walter Sells (yeah, that’s his real name! lol).
It’s much nicer than the previous generation Rabbit, actually. I’ve driven the MKV Rabbit, so I can tell you from personal experience that the ride in this car is better. Sorry if the “sculpted body lines” don’t appeal to you, but hey, to each his own.

I was surprised that they omitted the chrome plated exhaust tips, but then I thought EXHAUST comes out of them! Who cares? It’s one piece of “bling” I don’t need. Couldn’t care less. And no, my tips aren’t “crooked” as someone noted. They’re in perfect alignment with the curvature of the lower valence. I’m perfectly happy to listen to criticisms of my car so long as they’re constructive, but remarks like these just seem like petty, mean-spirited digs, meant to make me feel bad about my decision to purchase a Golf and to help the person making them feel better about their own (presumably vastly superior) car. Isn’t it enough that we all love our cars? Why do we have to resort to passive aggressive attacks?

I absolutely fell in love with the MKV Rabbit and GTI. In fact, I have an entire library of images and pdf brochures about them on my computer! But I wasn’t ready to buy until now. I had good timing; they made some noticeable improvements on ride quality and materials. I’m very happy with the car. Are there things I would change? Probably, but overall, I’m extremely happy with my first VDub. I feel lucky every time I slip behind the wheel and fire her up.

I am aware of the whole “blank canvas” approach to VW ownership, that it is a means of self-expression as much as a means of transportation. But for now, I’m just enjoying it in it’s original state, the obvious concessions to that remark being the wheels and window tint. I may make mods along the way, but I’m not going to do them until I’m ready and I’m convinced they’re in my best interest, not the collective approval of forum members. I know from first hand experience how easy it is to let other people spend my money! lol

People mean well, but very often, they’re just looking for someone to approve of their own choices by having others follow suit. At any rate, I LOVE my Golf. That’s all that matters!

VW had to trim the fat somewhere; the most obvious casualty of that was deleting the chrome tips. I’m sure it was all part of a comprehensive cost-cutting and process-streamlining endeavor, not necessarily meant to lower the cost of the final product, but to improve profitability in a tough market.

Some people, myself included, couldn’t care less about adorning my exhaust pipes with chrome, whereas others regard it as a necessary accoutrement. The fact that they are no longer included in the base model is what disappoints some. Who knows? If I find some cash laying around some day, I might opt to install them, along with other unnecessary goodies. We’ll see…

Thanks for taking the time to produce that virtual conversion of my car’s suspension, Oregondweller. Nice work, even for a quick chop! That said, I think that’s too extreme for my blood. I like the idea of shaving maybe an inch or inch and a half off the wheel gap, but that chop makes it look like I could never cut the wheel without ripping off the front fenders! That, and I hate to say it, but it reminds me of those Honda Civics with fart-can exhaust cans, radical over-the-top decals, and neon light accents under the rockers. Not my speed. Hell, I’m 45 years old. If I wanted to look boy racer, I’d do all of the above, but in the interests of avoiding being called a “poser,” and retaining some semblance of dignity, I must refrain. lol
